Trinidad & Tobago
Trinidad & Tobago is located in the Southern Caribbean between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, northeast of Venezuela. They are southeasterly islands of the Lesser Antilles, located close to the South American mainland.

There are hundreds of children in Trinidad & Tobago who are considered at risk. Presently, there is a dire need for transitional housing as there are none that have been established expressly for this purpose in the country. After living in residential care homes, many young people find themselves homeless after reaching 17 or 18 years of age; they 'age-out'. With limited resources many of them find themselves in vulnerable situations when their basic need for food, shelter, education, medical care, protection and security are compromised.

Lack of transitional housing has meant that an increasingly great number of young people become homeless and destitute. Many become criminals, substance abusers, and/or street workers who are exploited, abused, disabled, and institutionalized. Homeless youths are also put at higher risk of contracting HIV/AIDS, which is prevalent on the island. There is a direct link between homeless teens and juvenile delinquency.

We are deeply concerned for the rights and well-being of the young people in Trinidad & Tobago. To meet the needs of the youth at risk, we are establishing transitional and residential children's homes in Trinidad & Tobago in areas with the greatest need. If you would like to assist in providing homes for these young people, please go to our donation page to find out how you can help.

Reaching socially marginalized youth requires special planning, advocacy efforts, and supplemental resources. Providing services and addressing the root causes of youth's marginalization will create stronger and safer communities
